Rick Reyer has settled in Marietta with his wife, Tricia, after living in Tucker; Manhattan; Rhinebeck, NY; and Acapulco, Mexico. He worked in the live entertainment industry for more than 20 years and is now a retired fisherman gardener and Grandad to Haley. Sally Johnson Warner has lived in the same house in Atlanta for 51 years. She is widowed after 44 years of marriage to Clinton E. Warner, who died in 2012. Sally has a stepson and a granddaughter. Her favorite memories are of enjoying friends who she considered her best buddies. Sally is at

Shawn Griffin Brown lives in McKinney, Texas. She has three kids that live in the area. Shawn plays golf and reads a lot, while doing a part-time job from home. Frank Busbee, a Vietnam veteran, lived in Grayson and Lawrenceville, Georgia. He worked in sales for 30 years and now enjoys bass fishing. Frank has a son and four grandsons. Steve Boner lives in Birmingham, Ala. He’s been married to Becky for 53 years. They met their freshman year at Auburn. They have two children and four grands. Steve owned an industrial sales company and retired in 2001. He plays a lot of golf and has done a lot of traveling. He says he sowed his oats before he got married and he found the right one. Daryel O’Barr lives in Woodstock, Georgia. He serves as Pastoral Care Associate at First Baptist Church of Woodstock and served as a Baptist Pastor for 45 years. Daryel has been married to Nancy Davidson O’Barr for 53 years. They have three children, fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He fondly remembers the Avondale vs. Valdosta games. Priscilla Bagby Hynez lives on St. Simons Island. She’s a retired interior designer and community volunteer. Priscilla has three wonderful children and their spouses and four grandchildren. Her mother is 95 years young. She says, “The best years of my life was Avondale football games and Death Valley, our 100th win, our team of football players and cheerleaders, drill team, marching band and classmates were the BEST ever! Susan Brewer Elder lives in Aiken, S.C., and lived in El Paso; San Francisco; Wilmington, Delaware; and Orange, Texas. She and her husband, Hank, have seven awesome grandchildren, who range in age from 2 to 18, and her grandchildren’s’ awesome parents, their sons and wives. She loves reading and gardening. Susan says, “When I hear or read about mean girls these days, I am reminded to be thankful for the kind girls I went to school with. Joyce Humphries Vest lives in Commerce and has lived in Stone Mountain, Lithonia and Fayetteville. She has two daughters, three granddaughters and one grandson. Joyce taught high school Social Science for 27 years and, after retirement, was a Realtor for seven years. She will be married to Malcolm Vest for 49 years in June. Bill Baldwin lives in Griffin and also lived in Washington, DC, when he was in the army and Memphis, Tenn. He worked as a part time optometrist. Patricia “Tricia” Hulsey Bridges lives in Dunwoody. A retired associate professor at Emory University, she enjoys serving as a shepherd to a flock at St. Luke’s Presbyterian Church, participating in Bible studies, attending lifelong learning classes and playing tennis. Tricia remembers, “Martha White and I attended a formal dance dressed to the nines in formal attire. After the dance our dates took us to the Krystal for ‘dinner’.” She’s at bridgtr@aol.com.
Al Bridges lives in Dunwoody. A retired managing attorney for a local staff counsel office, he plays tennis, reads and travels. While some students enjoyed watching the 1963 state championship team, Al was a member of it. He’s at bridgtr@aol.com.
Sid Cheatham now lives in in Sanderville and has lived in Germany, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Nashville, Chicago, Philadelphia, Charlotte and Kiawah Island. Married for 53 years, Sid has three children and eight grandchildren. He retired in 2010 from Lance, Inc. as VP Sales Development. Kit (Hamrick) Veal lives in Holly Springs, N.C. She loves dancing with her husband, George, who is retired from Duke Energy. He is teaching her to play golf. George Veal lives in Holly Springs, N.C., after living for 30 years in Charlotte. Kit Hamrick Veal and George have been happily married for over 20 years. They both love ballroom dancing. They have a son who lives in Florida and a daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons in Holly Springs. All are doing well. “I will always remember the State championship game my junior year at Avondale stadium. There were over 12,000 fans there. Suzanne Richardson Lee lived in Avondale for six years and then moved to Naples, Fla., 13 years ago. She has seven grands: four in St. Petersburg, Fla., and three in Austin, Texas, ranging in age from 1 to 19. “We return to Avondale in the spring and fall to enjoy the friends, family, and surroundings.” Suzanne cooks and bakes a lot, enjoys needle art (knitting, needlepointing, embroidery), reads excessively, walks, workouts with a personal trainer and returns to Austin for visits whenever she can. Her high school memories? “Football games and dances our senior year, UGA, notorious characters (Rocky Adams, Coach Ramsey, Coach Myers, Tom Ward, GENE LEE!), kind friends who adopted this

Michael McCreary lives in Acton, Mass., after living in Rochester, N.Y. He is still working for E Ink in the field of electronic display and biotech microfluidics. His wife, Carol, is retired from her previous job as a personal trainer and is an avid
quilter. Michael runs for exercise and is attempting to seriously expand their vegetable garden this year. They have an island cottage in New Hampshire accessible only by boat and heated only by a wood stove. They both look forward to cruise vacations again, COVID permitting. Travel to their last continent, Africa has twice been cancelled due to political unrest or COVID. Their daughter, Michelle, is a pediatrician in Florida and has given them two grandkids, ages 3 and 5. Their son, Kevin, is a finance manager for Ascend Elements, a lithium battery recycling company in Boston. He helped to negotiate their new factory site in Covington. “I still fondly remember the overflowing, cheering fans at the Blue Devil football games at Death Valley. Even today, the pungent smell of cigar smoke immediately brings back memories of those football games. As a staff/yearbook photographer, along with Loren Rees, I enjoyed taking pictures from the sidelines and then reliving the game as we developed the film and printed the pictures in the darkroom behind Ms. Blalock’s Biology class. Martha White Coursey lives in Vinings with Jeff. Jeff and Martha met at Avondale Elementary in 5th grade. His family moved to Memphis in 6th grade and it was not until their sophomore year in college that they saw each other again. They have been married for almost 52 years and are the proud parents of a daughter, Courtney, who is married to Ricardo. They are also the proud grandparents of grandson Ricky. Martha’s career was spent in the field of education starting as an elementary teacher and retiring in 2012 as Dean of Adult Education at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Larry Minnix lives in Avondale and previously in Atlanta and Virginia. He and his wife, Kathleen, have five grands and two sons and daughters-in-law. Larry had a career in senior living and advocacy and wrote a book about it entitled Hallowed Ground. He now helps his Atlanta granddaughters feed Avondale Lake’s ducks. Patricia Blissit Larkins lived in Benicia, Calif., for 18 years and moved in 2004 to a Dell Webb retirement community in Surprise, Ariz., a suburb of Phoenix. She and her husband are both retired and have a son and daughter and two granddaughters. One is in high school and the other one is going to Fullerton College in Calif. Joe O’Neal has always lived in Conyers, except for two years spent in the Army. He and his wife, Patsy, have been married for just over 50 years. They have three children and seven grandchildren, all living in metro Atlanta. “The Magnificent 7,” as Joe refers to them, range in age from one to 16 years old. Joe and Patsy are both long retired from teaching and travel extensively. They have been to all seven continents, including Antarctica, and six of them twice. “We have been to Cuba, Russia, China and Tibet—places we never thought we would ever get to when we were growing up,” he said. They both still walk every day and hike. Joe enjoys woodworking and reading. “When I tell people about what it was like to go Avondale High School in the early 1960’s, they often find it hard to believe. Kay Judy Connelly grew up at 43 Wiltshire. While at UGA, she was at the AXO House in Athens. For the past 48 years, she has lived at 10 Dartmouth in Avondale with her husband of 53 years, Don. Their children grew up as “Avondale kids.” Their daughter, Jennifer, lives in Missouri with Mike and two boys who are in college. Their son, Chris, lives in Roswell and is married to Angela (daughter of AHSer Cindy Jackson) with two darling girls. Kay retired from Admission at Agnes Scott. the DAWGS and redecorate the house every couple of years! “I only remember the fun times. Football games, winning state, drill team, pep rallies, riding around in Denise Flowers’ VW bug for hours, the year we had ‘double sessions’ and got to play all afternoon, skipping school ONE TIME with Anne Elliott and getting caught. Harold Eugene “Gene” Webb lives in Griffin. He’s retired and his wife has been gone for 15 years. He lives in the same neighborhood with his daughter. Gene travels to meet with all his Marine Corps buddies and other people he knows, making new friends along the way. His favorite high school memories? “All the sports I got to play with my very good friends, especially when we won the state championship in football. Gary Duke has lived in Loganville for the last 35 years. He’s been married to Vicky for over 50 years and blessed with three children and nine grandkids, all close by. Paul Butler lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Waynesville, N.C. After leaving Atlanta, he also lived in Phoenix and Tampa. Ginah and Paul met at Emory and were married days after graduating from college. They’ll celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary in June. They have two sons and four grands. Paul graduated from Emory Law School and Emory’s theology school. He practiced law as his major career and founded a law firm in Tampa. As an ordained United Methodist minister, he also served as Senior Pastor and Executive Pastor of churches and volunteered as the Chancellor (General Counsel) of The Florida Conference of the UMC while also continuing his connection with the firm. “Having moved to Orlando just before my senior year, returning on several occasions for Cotillion and the Jr/Sr with Jane Eley (Kay) ranks high on the memory scale. Marc Jordan has lived in Belmont, N.C., North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Raleigh, N.C., Norfolk, Va., Memphis, Tenn., Lynchburg, Va. and Rocky Mount, N.C. Most of his career has been in leading local chambers of commerce, which has now spanned over 45 years. He married Vicki who he met at Lynchburg College They have three grown children, including boy-girl twins. Marc belongs to a fraternity of heart transplant recipients, celebrating 22 years. His basketball memory is of his grandmother burning up his uniform so he was unable to dress for the state playoffs at Alexandria Memorial Coliseum. Sally Johnson Warner lived in Atlanta and Budapest, Hungary. “I have continued to have a wonderful life since 1965!! A wonderful 44-year marriage from age 21 years until I was 65 when my husband, Dr. Clinton E. Warner, passed. My husband was just one of the many persons involved in the Civil Rights Movement his entire life and I continue his legacy. I was secretary and friend to Dr. Benjamin E. Mays, President Emeritus of Morehouse College and President of the Atlanta Board of Education until a couple of years before his death in 1984. I only had the privilege to work for him from the summer of 1980 until his death in 1984 but the knowledge and experience I was granted was extraordinary, along with my long marriage to Clint. I have lived in the same wonderful home for 50 years. I lost my best friend last August and she was your classmate also. Julie Cobb Pettit Weaver and I (after becoming widows) took our fancy selves to Budapest, Hungary, and bought a home. From 2013 until 2018, we had a wonderful life being world travelers!! I miss my friend. I have been a truly blessed and fortunate person all of my life. My health is good and I am no longer “skinny” and not quite as tall as in 1965. And the color of my hair is truly white!! But I am healthy and wondering how in this world did I turn 75 years old??? Wishing all my classmates wonderful, fulfilling ‘rest of our lives.’” Her favorite high school memory? “Becoming friends with some of the greatest folks on this earth. The really strange thing is most of the really close friends I had have died. I miss some very deeply. Lillie Cronan Stewart lived all over while traveling with her husband in the Marines. They now live in Rome, Ga. She worked as a NICU nurse. They have three children. Jim Baskett lives in the historic Scott Candler home in Decatur. He’s been married 52 years to Michalene Kadar of McKeesport, Penn. Robert (Bobby) Armstrong lives in Roswell and has lived in Houston, Tex.; Lawton, Okla.; Douglasville, Ga.; Villa Rica, Ga.; Carrolton, Ga.; Lone Star, Tex.; and Longview, Tex. Bobby is a National Park Ranger. He spent 28 years before that running his surveying business in Douglasville. He spent more than 50 years in engineering, construction and land surveying. Huey remembers, “Playing Moultrie for State Championship. On the field that night there were six of us who went to kindergarten together in Moultrie. Three

Paul Senkbeil lives in Big Canoe and has also lived in Macon and Smyrna, Ga., LA (lower Alabama to include Fairhope, Daphne and Spanish Fort), Greensboro, N.C. and Dallas, Tex. Jacob P. “Jakey” Adams now lives in Blairsville and has also lived and worked in Athens, Ga.; Chicago, Ill., Yuma, Ariz.; Los Angeles, Calif.; San Antonio, Fort Worth and Houston, Tex.; Washington, D.C. and Macon. Jakey is a Vietnam Vet, retired IRS Criminal Investigator and former Border Patrol Agent. He restored four houses on the National Register of Historic Places. His favorite high school memory is Gary West’s TD run on the opening play of the 1964 football season.
Donna Vawter Childers now lives in Loganville and also lived in Lilburn and Decatur. She worked as an RN in hospitals for 40 years. Her hobbies include quilting, reading and travel. “My most memorable moment of high school is

Larry McMahan lives in Chanute, Kansas. His hobbies are golf and coin collecting and he has been a member of Kiwanis. “My favorite memories are not just all the winning in football, basketball, track, baseball, gymnastics and tennis. They also include the fun while decorating a float, listening to our choir and just saying hi to every person I would see in the hallways. I was spoiled, but perhaps I was not recognized by others who really didn’t know me. My brother Bob is from the class of ’58, my sister Sue is from the class of ’59, and my sister Sandra is from the class of ’63. Sue was a cheerleader, and Sandra was on the Drill Team. Tom Evans lives in Tucker and plans to move to Winston-Salem, N.C. He still loves his cars. “Mary and I still drive Mercedes. Hers is 41 years old and mine is 40 years old. You just can’t wear them out. I still like anything to do with electronics as well.” Tom fondly remembers, “The night Decatur beat Avondale in Death Valley 7-6. Bill Zell lives in Southport, N.C. He has also lived in Rhode Island, California, Guam, Texas and Florida. While serving in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, he lived many other places in the Pacific area. Bill commanded a fleet squadron and a major communications station. Now retired, he spends most of his time golfing and traveling through Europe. “I guess I will always remember beating Moultrie 40 – 0 at Death Valley junior year. Jean Weldon Pulliam Penrod lives in Avondale Estates. She loved working at Eastern Air Lines and then teaching and then the best job of all, being a mom and grandmom. Jean remembers Cecil Clifton’s loooooong basket at the Dome.
Linda Harris Gordon has lived on five acres in Loganville for 27 years. Her husband Sid and she like to deer hunt and are members of a hunting club in Culloden, Ga., near Barnesville. They have seven grandchildren. Their three children live close by so they are blessed to spend time with them. They are in the process of planting a vegetable garden. Jane Eley Kay lives in Oxford, Ga. Her husband Rick and she have been married for 54 years. They have two children. “Michael graduated from Georgia State and Melanie graduated from The University of Georgia. In 1994, they both got married. It was a wonderful year!” Michael is married to Michelle and they have three children. Brandon, a graduate of the University of Alabama, now is in the National Guard. Reilly is a junior at GCSU in Milledgeville and will be doing an internship in Sweden and Denmark this summer. William is a sophomore at Mill Creek High School in Gwinnett County. Melanie is married to Doug and they have two children. Sarah is a graduate of Georgia Tech and now has a fellowship to Stanford University to get her master’s degree and PhD. Sam, a junior at Western Carolina, will be doing an internship with The National Park Service in northern Michigan. “Five beautiful and handsome grandchildren that we love and adore!! They keep us very busy!” Jane remembers in high school, “I dated Paul Butler and we had great dates to football games, Pep Rallies, Cotillion, Jr/Sr, dances in the gym, and many, many activities at Belvedere Methodist Church!
